The members of the Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (GI) have elected Dipl. Inf. Edna Kropp, VIER Head of Product Management BC, as a member of the Executive Committee for the next three years.

"We congratulate Edna on this great success and are proud to have such a recognized and committed IT personality in our ranks!" says VIER CEO Rainer Holler. With around 20,000 personal and 250 corporate members, the GI is the largest professional association for computer science in the German-speaking world and an important voice for the computer science community in Germany. As a member of the Executive Board, Edna Kropp will continue to be particularly committed to strengthening SMEs, expanding Germany as an AI location and empowering women in IT and promoting young talent, and is one of the few female company representatives on a governing body that is dominated by universities and research institutions.

Edna Kropp has been a member of the GI for many years and was a member of the Executive Board from 2022 to 2025. Part of her voluntary work since 2017 has been her commitment to the GI specialist group "Women and Computer Science", of which she was spokesperson from 2022-2025. In March 2025, she was honored by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for her voluntary work.

"I am delighted to be back on the GI Executive Board and am grateful for the trust placed in me," says Edna Kropp. "In IT development, I see the rapid changes brought about by social media and artificial intelligence in particular as major challenges. One of my goals is to strengthen Germany as an IT location, especially in the SME sector, and to make it one of the leading locations for good AI solutions."

The GI committee is headed by the newly elected GI President Prof. Dr. Martin Wolf. "Computer science does not have the visibility in Germany that it deserves as the most fundamental discipline of digitalization. My aim is to change this and initiate a discussion about the future of computer science," says Wolf. "In addition, many debates about computer science and AI lack the perspective of European and, in particular, German research and companies." In order to change this and focus more strongly on German offerings, VIER is a member of the GI's Economic Advisory Board alongside other well-known companies from the IT industry.
